Note: No, this is not for [livejournal.com profile] 31_days. This is just something entirely random I wrote, wtf.

She was cold. Merciless and cold. Much like her brother - although that was perhaps because of her loyalty to him. Except she did not smile like him, did not use cruelty like a child would. She pricked like the cold of winter, and smiled as much as a cloud would. She was terrifying. And beautiful.

At first, he was not sure of his sudden attraction to her. She was beautiful, yes, but so were other nations, other places. Perhaps it was just his desire to be a hero, then. After all, how many times had he seen the pitying sight of her trailing after her brother, like a dog would a master? To see her so dependent, to not see her stretch what wings she may have, was against one of his fundamental laws, after all. Perhaps that was the reason why - to sever those ties, and feel proud as he watched her fly. He had done it with other countries, of course!

But she denied him. She refuted him. She was cold to him as he offered help, deaf to his cries of her being too reliant upon her brother. She did not want to hear it. She did not care to hear it. She would live in that snowy, cold little world of her brother's until the day she died if she wished it. If she continued to wish it.

For some reason, he just could not have it.

He could feel the desire to pull her close well up, to pull her away from everything she had been for so long. He wanted to be her saviour, not have her still worshipping the brother that had destroyed so many. He wanted to be the idol of her heart.

So, he ignored the cold glares, the stab of her knives in his skin. He would hold her hand gently, even as she would pull it away. He would smile at her with all the radiance he could muster, guide her with all the kindness he believed was right. He would ignore those bitter words she would spit at him, the denial of his arms.

Because he would stand by her, whether she wished it or not.
